Kollur

Kollur Kollur, 80 kms from Udupi, is one of the most important places of pilgrimage on the west coast attracting pilgrims from all over India. The temple dedicated to the Divine Mother, Sri Mookambika, stands in the valley of the great Kodachadri peak. The Goddess Mookambikais regarded as a manifestation of Shakti, Saraswathi and Mahalakshmi. The Panchaloha image (five element mixed metal) of the Goddess on Shree Chakra is stated to have been consecrated by Adi shankaracharya during his visit to this place. There is an exquisite sculpture of Panchamukha Ganesha here.

A trek to the peak of the Kudashadri peak and a hike to the Govinda Theertha waterfalls are noteworthy trips from Kollur.

How to reach

Mangalore is accessible by air, train and bus. Kollur is about 140 km from Mangalore and buses ply very regularly between Kollur and Mangalore.
